In the beginning of the web 2.0 trend, tag clouds were one of the most popular items of web design. And, they were (and still are) very useful in helping readers to easily locate the most-used tags.
Afterwards, the Flash-powered animated tag canvas came and it conquered many websites. The Flash -kinda- died, HTML5 is now everywhere and the animated tag cloud is still here for the new web built without Flash.
TagCanvas is an HTML5 canvas powered and animated tag cloud that has both standalone and jQuery plugin versions.
It has support for text +images and can be shaped as a sphere, hcylinder or vcylinder.
The resource has so many settings for maximum customization and works even in IE (thanks to ExplorerCanvas).

The third (and hopefully final!) release candidate for WordPress 3.3 is now available. Since RC2, we’ve done a handful of last-minute tweaks and bugfixes that we felt were necessary.
Our goal is to release version 3.3 early next week, so plugin and theme authors, this is your last pre-release chance to test your plugins and themes to find any compatibility issues before the final release. We’ve published a number of posts on the development blog that explain important things you need to know as you prepare for WordPress 3.3. Please review this information immediately if you have not done so already.
If you think you’ve found a bug, you can post to the Alpha/Beta area in the support forums. Or, if you’re comfortable writing a reproducible bug report, file one on WordPress Trac. Known issues that crop up will be listed here, but let’s all keep our fingers crossed for a quiet Sunday so we can get these new features into your hands early next week!
To test WordPress 3.3, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want “bleeding edge nightlies”). Or you can download the release candidate here (zip).

You will remember 365psd, a lovely website -featured at WRD before- that publishes one free PSD each day.
Recently, they have released a new freebie which is an awesome set of tiny icons.
As expected, they are in PSD format, 30*30px by default and comes in a very well organized PSD file where each item is placed inside a layer group.
The set is so suitable to be used in web apps considering it has most of the commonly-used web app icons.

WordPressThemeShock, a website that releases high-quality freebies from time-to-time, has just published a huge set of free PSD website templates.
The set consists of 99 templates with well-layered PSD files, each having a homepage and internal page designs.
Such a big resource is very handy not only for using them as templates but also making use of the layers we like on other projects.
P.S. They are free to be used in personal projects and commercial usage requires a license.

iUI is a mobile web framework that has been around for a long time (since 2007) compared to many other mobile resources.
It was mentioned in a previous WRD article (iPhone Application And Website Development: All Tools And Tutorials You Need) and evolved much since then.
The framework includes a JavaScript library, CSS and images for developing touch-enabled web apps.
User interfaces to be created are iPhone-like yet compatible with most smartphones and tablets and has support for menus, forms, lists, image galleries and more.
Also, there are built-in extensions for caching, getting system information, HTML5 videos or theme switching.
iUI is well-documented and has tutorials to get you started easily.

Hovercard is a jQuery plugin that eases displaying information with style when an HTML element of our choice is hovered.
The information box appears with a smooth fading effect and accepts any HTML markup to be used as the content.
It is very useful for enabling users to reach micro info quickly (like a short bio, price of an item, an image, etc.) and comes with built-in Facebook + Twitter integration. Simply, it can display the details of a Facebook page or Twitter user nicely.
There are options for defining its width, position, background color and more.
Also, callback functions exist when hovering in and out from a Hovercard item.

The second release candidate for WordPress 3.3 is now available!
As the first release candidate was well-received, we think we’re really close to a final release. Primarily, we’ve ensured that new toolbar (the admin bar in 3.2) has a consistent appearance across all browsers, and the API for developers is now final. You can check our bug tracker for the complete list of changes.
Plugin and theme authors, please test your plugins and themes now, so that if there is a compatibility issue, we can figure it out before the final release. On our development blog, we’ve published a number of posts that explain important things you need to know as you prepare for WordPress 3.3.
If you haven’t tested WordPress 3.3 yet, now is the time — please though, not on your live site unless you’re adventurous. Once you install RC2, you can visit About WordPress page (hover over the WordPress logo in the top left) to see an overview of what’s to come in WordPress 3.3 (and what to test, of course).
If you think you’ve found a bug, you can post to the Alpha/Beta area in the support forums. Or, if you’re comfortable writing a reproducible bug report, file one on WordPress Trac. Known issues that crop up will be listed here.
Enjoy!
To test WordPress 3.3, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want “bleeding edge nightlies”). Or you can download the release candidate here (zip).

Find my Font, a very useful desktop font identifier application, is giving away 5 Pro licenses ($69/each) to WRD readers.
Details on joining the giveaway can be found at the bottom of this post and here is what this tool offers:
What is Find my Font?
We sometimes see a beautiful logo and wonder which font is used to create it. Guessing and try-catches is the popular method for reaching to a result but it takes time and usually hard.
Find my Font is a desktop application (with Windows and Mac OS X versions) that can identify a font used in images and helps browsing your font library.
It works by selecting the letters in the image and asks us to type these letters and runs a quick scan within the fonts in our system (any number of font folders can be defined) to find the ones with the closest match.
The great thing is that the application doesn't only return a single result but also lists and orders the fonts according to their similarity score which is handy for finding alternatives.
Find my Font has an easy-to-use toolbox for taking screenshots, rotating images or selecting letters to make sure that the image to be analyzed is ready for a scan.
As mentioned previously, the application is also a font browser where you can type a text and quickly see how it looks. Also, the scan works during browsing fonts so that the alternatives to the system fonts (or their duplicates) can be instantly catched.
How to join the giveaway?
Find my Font is giving away 5 * Pro licenses and it is enough to comment for joining this giveaway -and let us know you favorite font in the comments which can help other commenters meet new lovely fonts – totally optional : )-.
Winners will be selected randomly with the query below on 13 Dec 2011 (a week later):
SELECT * FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_post_id=2602 AND comment_approved=1 AND comment_type='' GROUP BY comment_author_email ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 5
Good luck to all.
And, the winners
The winners are selected and here they are:
- Aldo (comment #454823)
- Josh D. (comment #457922)
- NRL (comment #454441)
- Robert Barcus (comment #454262)
- Webster (comment #455313)

The official W3C validator is a great place for checking if our website's HTML/XHTML is standards compliant. However, it can validate a single URL at a time.
W3Clove is a free to use web service which crawls any given website to generate the sitemap of it (or accepts sitemaps directly) and validates each URL through the W3C's validator.
The errors and warnings for each URL is stored and displayed as a list. And, it compiles a basic report of the most common errors and warnings as a summary.
W3Clove also remembers the recent checks you have made and present them to you quickly.

Humane JS is a modern and tiny JavaScript library for displaying customizable notifications.
It has pre-defined notification types: info, success + error which are styled accordingly and new styles/themes can be created easily.
When available, the library uses CSS transitions and falls back to JavaScript animations when needed.
Humane JS doesn't require any JavaScript libraries to function and has several options including: timeout (the delay before a message fades out) or how the notifications can be closed (on any mouse/keyboard/touch action and/or clicking the close button).
And, the library has a callback function that is fired when the notification is displayed with success.
