watermark.js is a JavaScript library that enables us to insert watermarks over images quickly and in batch.
It can target any number of images in a web page that has a specific class and apply the watermark over the original image with the help of HTML5 canvas.
The library normally aims to protect images from being stolen. Although, it is not a perfect solution (just like many others) as the image source is plain-coded, it can still prevent non-advanced users.
On the other hand, watermark.js is very handy when you only want to insert an image over another and position however you want without a server-side solution.

For the past several years, WordPress has been a proud participant in the Google Summer of Code program (aka GSoC). We’ve been accepted as a mentoring organization again this year, and are looking forward to working with a select handful of talented college students who are interested in developing for WordPress. Student applications are currently being accepted, and the deadline to apply is April 8. Are you a college student/developer looking for a summer challenge (or do you know one)? GSoC Logistics:

- Highly competitive and prestigious program (in 2010, 5539 proposals were submitted by 3464 students, and 1026 were accepted)

WordPress logistics:
- Mentors include WordPress core developers, plugin authors (including BuddyPress and bbPress), mobile app developers, and WordPress professionals.
- Projects are limited only by your imagination and ability.
- Previous GSoC students have gained responsible roles in WordPress core development, like Dion Hulse and Andrew Nacin (core committers), and Daryl Koopersmith (wrote the internal linking feature in 3.1 and much of the custom menus feature in 3.0).
- This year, in addition to accepting project proposals for the main WordPress web app, we’re also encouraging applications for projects with the WordPress mobile apps (iOS, Android, Blackberry, Nokia, Windows Phone 7), for community-developed plugins like BuddyPress and bbPress, and even standalone plugins that could become community projects. Check out our Codex page on GSoC 2011 for some ideas to get you thinking.
- Last year we mentored 15 students, and hope to take on about the same number this year.

Textpattern is an open source content management system, built with PHP/MySQL, that offers a flexible usage for designers, publishers/bloggers and end-users.
The application uses built-in tags for retrieving and displaying dynamic content which gives you a complete control over the content and presentation.

It can be extended with a huge list of ready-to-use plugins (writing new ones is pretty easy) and an active community + a detailed documentation helps finding answers to any questions.

Previously, WRD had shared HTML5 Boilerplate which was an HTML/CSS/JS template to be used as a starting point when building a HTML5 website.

Timeglider is a jQuery plugin for displaying any number of events in a highly-flexible timeline.
Its interface has support for zooming in/out (mouse wheel can be used too) and panning where you can quickly navigate through the time and find events.
Events are clickable and can display a detailed view of them inside a modal box.
JSON is used as the data source for the items in the timeline. Within the data source, it is possible to attach items to categories for filtering them (filtering can also be done keyword-based).
There are also many other features like "the ability to use images in the timeline", "attaching icons to events, "setting an importance for each item" and more.

When using the native canvas API, we normally draw pixels on the canvas (to create objects) which is pretty time consuming .
oCanvas is a JavaScript library that focuses on creating a simpler development process with HTML5 canvas.
The library enables us to work directly with objects (like rectangle, ellipse, image, etc.) and has:
- an animation module for moving + transforming them,
- a timeline module for start-stopping these animations and setting their duration,
- an events module that supports "touch" behind mouse and keyboard interactions.
Using oCanvas, it is possible to create scenes which is handy when separating your application into different states.
The library is small in size (15kb gzipped), very well-documented and extensible with its plugin support.

As we know, browsers like to keep creating their standards. In this case, it is the vendor prefixes for some CSS3 rules like: border-radius becoming webkit-border-radius for WebKit browsers, moz-border-radius for Gecko and so.
CSSPrefixer is a tool that saves us from creating rules for every browser by analyzing CSS files and generating the necessary vendor prefixes automatically.
It can be used online freely or downloaded and ran from console (which makes integrating with IDEs possible) or as a Python script.

XUI is a lightweight (probably the smallest – 4.1kb gzipped) JavaScript framework for building HTML5 mobile web applications.
It is not a feature-rich mobile framework that covers any possible scenario but can be enough for many applications considering mobile apps are usually about lists and forms.
The framework has a plain, familiar and chaining syntax + comes with targeted builds for WebKit, IE Mobile and BlackBerry.
Besides the base file (base.js) that includes the essentials for dom node retrieval, it has 5 other .JS files for dom manipulation, events, animation, styling and Ajax support.
XUI is also modular and there are already few ready-to-use plugins.
