If you own an e-reader, you probably agree that it is easier and less tiring to read there compared to devices without e-ink screens.
dotEPUB is a free-to-use web application (and it is open source) for converting web pages into e-books with a click to read them offline.
The application creates the e-books in EPUB format and comes in 3 flavors:
- bookmarklet to be installed on browsers
- a chrome plugin
- widget for integration into websites
For further customization or any custom implementations, dotEPUB has an API as well.
P.S. The e-books created are supported in all major devices and e-readers.

jQuery Geo is a plugin for the popular framework that provides an easy-to-use API for map/geolocation related actions.
The plugin uses the open source map servers like Open Street Map, WMS and Esri ArcGIS (Open Street Map by default) for pulling the map data and can:
- show mapping data and handle direct user interaction with the map
- use geospatial functions like calculating bounding boxes, measuring the distance between geometries, etc.
The maps created are mobile-friendly and have lots of built-in methods for customization.
jQuery Geo is very well-documented and supported with a bunch of examples.

Working with images and resizing or cropping them can sometimes be challenging as there is always a math going on behind: the ratios, resizing with the width or height, x-y values for cropping, etc.
phpThumb is a PHP library that handles all the hard work on creating thumbnails with only few lines of code.
It accepts any source types for images (from the filesystem, URL or database) and all popular image formats.

Substance is an open source and web-based application for authoring and publishing documents.
It offers a MS Word-like-yet-simpler and easy to use interface for creating, editing and organizing content.
Any number of other users can be invited for collaborative editing where it will be possible to view which user created which parts of the document.
Users can subscribe to document for getting notified about the updates and comment on any parts of the content (and they can be seen in a nice toggled view).
The "table of contents" are created automatically and helps browsing long documents faster.
Also, an export feature can convert documents into many other formats including PDF, ODT, RDF, EPUB, HTML, Markdown and more.
Even if the Substance is not used as is, the modules (document editing, exporting, etc.) of the application are very handy to be used/integrated in other apps.

The latest and greatest version of the WordPress software — 3.3, named “Sonny” in honor of the great jazz saxophonist Sonny Stitt — is immediately available for download or update inside your WordPress dashboard.
WordPress has had over 65 million downloads since version 3.0 was released, and in this third major iteration we’ve added significant polish around the new user experience, navigation, uploading, and imports. For Users
Experienced users will appreciate the new drag-and-drop uploader, hover menus for the navigation, the new toolbar, improved co-editing support, and the new Tumblr importer. We’ve also been thinking a ton about what the WordPress experience is like for people completely new to the software. Version 3.3 has significant improvements there with pointer tips for new features included in each update, a friendly welcome message for first-time users, and revamped help tabs throughout the interface. Finally we’ve improved the dashboard experience on the iPad and other tablets with better touch support.
For Developers
There is a ton of candy for developers as well. I’d recommend starting your exploration with the new editor API, new jQuery version, better ways to hook into the help screens, more performant post-slug-only permalinks, and of course the entire list of improvements on the Codex and in Trac.

AreWePlayingYet? is an initiative and open source test suite that aims to bring more harmony into HTML5 Audio implementations.
Using the suite, anyone can easily test HTML5 audio capabilities of a browser and find out the features supported/unsupported.
It is built by SoundCloud and also enables us to quickly add new tests (if wanted).
