Heatmaps, which we usually see in analytics apps, are a great way of visualizing density.
ClickHeat (WRD article), a PHP class, is probably the most popular open source resource for creating them. Another alternative is Heatmap.js which eases creating them with only JavaScript.
This JavaScript library uses HTML5 canvas for generating the visualization with the data provided.
It can be customized completely including the color gradient, opacity, datapoint radius and much more.
Heatmap.js is a fresh resource, the documentation is inside the code and various examples are provided to get you started.

Awkward Showcase is a very flexible jQuery content slider plugin that can display any type of HTML content.
The plugin only controls the functionality and design is completely created on the HTML-CSS side.
Slider can have thumbnails that are positioned vertically or horizontally, captions can be displayed for each item and multiple tooltips can be positioned over slides (to provide detailed info about a specific part of the slide).
It can auto-arrange the height according to the content displayed, has multiple transition effects, the interval between each slide can be changed and much more.

MyDB Studio is a free MySQL database manager application that has almost every feature you can expect for.
It can connect to an unlimited number of databases. If they are behind a firewall or local-only, there is support for SSH tunneling to overcome that.
Databases, tables and records can be created, edited or deleted, they can be backed up/restored and exported into multiple formats.
The interface of MyDB Studio is very friendly, switching between data and design views is very fast and treeview of databases>tables>columns helps working effectively.
There is a WYSIWYG editor or designing and running SELECT queries on single or multiple tables.
And, as an original feature, it can automatically create PHP code for displaying data from tables.
P.S. The application is currently Windows-only but a cross platform Adobe AIR version is on the way.

PhotoSwipe is a free and full-featured image gallery for mobile and touch devices.
It is built with HTML, CSS + JavaScript and doesn't depend on any frameworks.
The interface is native-like and offers a similar experience with the ability of swiping items and support for orientation (also, resizes images automatically).
A "start" button can display the images as a slideshow and there are many options for customizing the gallery like the speed of fadeIn-fadeOut effects, enabling zoom, method of image scaling and much more.

Augment.js is a JavaScript library which adds JS 1.8.5 features to incompatible browsers by augmenting built-in types like Array and Object.
It doesn't override any native methods but just adds what is missing by combining the code snippets supplied by Mozilla.
Some of the methods provided are Array.prototype.every, Array.isArray, Date.now and much more.

WordPress 3.1.3 is available now and is a security update for all previous versions. It contains the following security fixes and enhancements:
- Various security hardening by Alexander Concha.
- Taxonomy query hardening by John Lamansky.
- Prevent sniffing out user names of non-authors by using canonical redirects. Props Verónica Valeros.
- Media security fixes by Richard Lundeen of Microsoft, Jesse Ou of Microsoft, and Microsoft Vulnerability Research.
- Improves file upload security on hosts with dangerous security settings.
- Cleans up old WordPress import files if the import does not finish.
- Introduce “clickjacking” protection in modern browsers on admin and login pages.

Download WordPress 3.1.3 or update automatically from the Dashboard → Updates menu in your site’s admin area.

In other news, our development of WordPress 3.2 development continues right on schedule. We released Beta 1 thirteen days ago, and today we’re putting out Beta 2 for your testing pleasure.
This is still beta software, so we don’t recommend that you use it on production sites. But if you’re a plugin developer, a theme developer, or a site administrator, you should be running this on your test environments and reporting any bugs you find. If you’re a WordPress user who wants to open your presents early, take advantage of WordPress’ famous 5-minute install and spin up a secondary test site. Let us know what you think!
The plan is to start putting out release candidates in early June, and to release WordPress 3.2 by the end of the month. The more you help us iron out issues during the beta period, the more likely we are to hit those dates. To misappropriate and mangle a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: “Be the punctuality you want to see in the WordPress.” In other words, test now!
Here are some of the things that changed since Beta 1:
- Google Chrome Frame is now supported in the admin, if you have it installed. This is especially useful for IE 6 users (remember, IE 6 is otherwise deprecated for the admin).
- The admin is less ugly in IE 7.
- The blue admin color scheme has caught up to the grey one, and is ready for testing.
- We are now bundling jQuery 1.6.1. You should test any JS that uses jQuery. WordPress JavaScript guru Andrew Ozz has a post with more info.
