Portamento.js is a jQuery plugin for creating such floating panels quickly with a line of JavaScript and few CSS rules.
It functions well with both absolutely-positioned + floated layouts and has cross-browser support.
The plugin has a smart feature which understands whether the screen-size is big enough or not to display the floating panel and decides to float it (or not) automatically.
It is very easy to use and has very few configuration options like "the element to be wrapped" or "its margin from top".

MobileESP is an open source project for easily detecting users browsing the web pages with a mobile browser.
It has server-side versions for PHP, ASP.NET, Java, Ruby and a client-side JavaScript version with light features.
There are methods provided for detecting a specific device (iPhone, Android, WebOS, etc.) or a wider selection if it is a smartphone, tablet, game console, etc.
The project has support for most of the well-known devices and can even identify their capabilities.

Bruce Galpin is sharing a framework of good-looking and Google+ styled buttons in his blog.
The buttons can use text, images or both inside them and comes with the high-quality icon set created by WebDesignShock.
As the icons have both standard and active state versions, buttons respond well to hovering them.
There is also a drop-down menu buttons version provided which is handy for presenting multiple options while still being in harmony with the rest of the buttons.

What is Visifire?
It is a multi-targetted kit of data visualization controls which is compatible with WPF, Silverlight & Windows Phone 7 which uses the same API for developing in all these platforms.
Visifire is not dependent on any server-side technology and can be used with almost any language including ASP, ASP.Net, SharePoint, PHP, JSP, ColdFusion, Python, Ruby or just simple HTML.
It has support for many chart types like bar, column, line, are, pie, stock, radar, stack, doughnut and more. Circular and linear gauges can be created too.
All the visualizations are very good-looking, interactive (responds to mouse-overs and clicks) and have shiny animations.
It is possible to zoom into charts by selecting a part of it to view only the selected portion.
They can be styled/themed easily and edited with Microsoft Expression Blend.

ImageMapster is a jQuery plugin that vitalizes the old image maps by adding more capabilities to them.
Using the plugin, any image map can be highlighted, selected (single or multiple areas) and manipulated in all kinds of ways.
There are many built-in functions provided like the ability to change the color-opacity or borders of the image map once it is selected. Or you can add a fade effect to them.
Tooltip support makes displaying user-friendly information possible while interacting with the image maps.
There are advanced functions like grouping areas to force the items to behave together (areas can be belong to more than one groups)
And, image map data can be automatically scaled to match the display size of an image or it can be resized to any defined dimensions (which is good for responsive designs).

It is usually a good practice to enable users to sign-in/sign-up using popular social service accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Google or OpenID.
Such an alternative not only fastens the process (no approval e-mails required, fewer form fields to fill, etc.) but also a "one less password to remember" from the user's perspective.
There are many social authentication providers besides the ones counted above including LinkedIn, Hotmail or Yahoo and integrating each can be a headache. Also, such codes may require to-be-updated from time-to-time to reflect any changes applied to them.
OneAll is a web service easing this process by providing a single API for using APIs of ~20 social services.
With the help of a "Social Login plugin", a widget that can be inserted to web pages with a copy-paste, users can be powered with an option to login with their social IDs.
A "Social Share plugin" empowers users to share their comments, purchases, reviews or other activities directly from the website with their friends on multiple social networks.
And, every action performed using OneAll (sign-in, sign-up, repeating visits, etc.) can be viewed in detail from its analytics interface.
It is hard to find such a service for free, however, OneAll is currently in beta (in-search of testers) and free during that period. Also, there will be a free plan once it is out-of-beta.
