Barcelona joins Liverpool in the race to sign Van Dijk – FCNaija
Barcelona has joined Liverpool in the race to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to report.
Liverpool is set to meet the £70m valuation for Van Dijk and reports in TMW say Barcelona is also interested in signing the Dutch international. Spanish media outlets also claimed that Barcelona has contacted Southampton over his possible signing, in a bid to replace departing Javier Mascherano.
The Southampton’s captain has been o the radar of Liverpool since the end of last season, Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the centre back and he has given the Reds the go-ahead to bring the Dutchman to Anfield but the deal could not materialise and Southampton also threaten to report Liverpool to the English FA for illegal approach.
Van Dijk is eligible to play in the Champions League, which has increased the prospect of signing him by the Camp Nou giants.
